Much of the food which the foodbank collects comes from our supermarket collection days. However an increasing proportion comes from collections by schools, churches, businesses and individuals.
To this end foodbank Collection Boxes are available. SKDC kindly supplied us with 100 of their old green recycling bins (the type they used before the wheelie bins). They will hold about 20kg of food.
We are able to collect and store only non-perishable food. You will be provided with a “shopping list” of required items both for the foodbank and for The Passage if you are collecting for them as well. We can only supply items to clients which are undamaged and within their use by date.
From time to time certain types of food item may be in short supply. When this happens we will email your nominated co-ordinator and send them a list of items we urgently need.
The foodbank is not able to collect food donated through the Collecting Bins. You will be asked to transfer the food into plastic bags and bring it to the foodbank Centre during our opening hours. The foodbank will record your donations and let you know at least annually how much you have contributed.
If your organisation would like a talk from a foodbank representative we will be happy to oblige. We have a volunteer who is a teacher and is offering to speak to schools or individual classes. We also have presentations suitable for churches and business organisations.
